Cut back to August 2011 and cue the arrival of 18 year old Romelu Lukaku to Chelsea, or as many called him at the time ‘Mini Drogba’. Since arriving at Stamford Bridge from R.S.C Anderlecht for a reported fee of around £20million he has proven to be much more than just a young prodigy of the former Chelsea favourite, and has created his own path of premier league destruction, though not with the Blues.
In the Premier League season 2011/2012 the Belgian powerhouse made only 8 appearances for the club he signed for, with 7 of those appearances coming from the bench. Clearly, the star studded first team of that years Champions League winners was not the right place for Lukaku’s development.
The following season saw Lukaku move to the Hawthorns and under the guidance of new boss Steve Clarke he bagged 17 goals in 35 appearances, helping… Continue reading →
André Villas-Boas and Paulo Fonseca could simply be two people with nothing in common. One was born in Portugal, the other in Mozambique; one has red hair and blue eyes, the other has the typical southern-european look; AVB is known to be a keen FC Porto fan, Fonseca never confessed in public but is said to support Benfica.
What link is there to be found between them, then? The answer is simple and many will have guessed by now: Fonseca is managing AVB’s childhood team this season and, much like the Spurs’ coach, is having a hard time convincing fans and the board that he is the right man for the job. The Premier League’s longest-serving player turns 40 years old today, and has no intent to hang up the boots just yet.
