Good news for Southampton Fans, Bertrand comes in

Southampton have arguably been one of the busiest sides during the transfer window due to a number of departures. Southampton fans can breathe a sigh of relief however as a the latest news coming out of Southampton is not a player departure, rather a player has come into St Mary’s.

Ryan Bertrand has been signed on a one year loan. The English full back was heavily linked with a £8million move to Chelsea’s title rivals Liverpool but has opted for regular first team football at The Saints following the departure of Luke Shaw to Manchester United. Rumours circulate that there is the potential for a permanent deal at the end of the season.

This is the 7th club the 24-year-old has been on loaned out to following his loan move to Aston Villa in January last season which resulted in 10 Premier League appearances.

Bertrand, twice capped by England, famously started Chelsea 11/12 Champions… Continue reading →

Spurs close in on third summer signing

TOTTENHAM Hotspur are closing in on their third summer signing after overnight reports suggested that English defender Eric Dier was closing in on a move to North London. The 20-year old Sporting Lisbon centre-half is expected to complete his move in the coming days with a £4 million deal between the two clubs being discussed.

Despite not being a household name on these shores the young defender has already made five appearances for the England under-21 side and is dubbed as the “next John Terry” due to his brave and powerful playing style.
He was approached by the Portuguese FA to play his international football for them however he turned down their advances and has represented England at under-18, u19, u20 and u21 levels.

Dier, who was born in England, moved to Portugal in 2004 when he was ten years old after his mother acquired work ahead of the European… Continue reading →

Everyone benefits from the Lukaku deal

Something significant happened on 30th July 2014; Everton flexed their muscles and snapped up one of the hottest, young talents in world football – Romelu Lukaku. The £28million signing will be under pressure to perform but on the face of it, this could be a very good deal for Everton, Chelsea and the player himself.

Lukaku has struggled to make an impact at Chelsea. Loan periods at West Bromwich Albion and Everton give him a better goal scoring record than Samuel Eto, Demba Ba and Fernando Torres which were the three strikers Chelsea chose to start 13/14 season with. Lukaku scored 17 goals in 35 appearances for the Baggies in the 12/13 season and 15 goals in 35 appearances for Everton (many of which as an impact substitute). He is a player who is physical and seems to be an ideal fit for Chelsea’s style of play and was nicknamed… Continue reading →

Everton smash transfer record on Lukaku

Everton have announced the signing of Romelu Lukaku from Chelsea for £28 million.

The fee is almost double the clubs previous record fee paid for a player, £15 million for Marouane Fellaini from Standard Liege in 2008. The news came simultaneously with the announcement that starlet Ross Barkley has committed his future to the club by signing a new contract.

Lukaku spent last season on loan at Goodison Park but was expected to return to Chelsea after a successful season at the Toffees. It soon became apparent, however, that the Belgium international was set for another season on the fringes in West London.

The 21-year-old has been linked with moves to numerous Premier League clubs this summer, most notably Tottenham Hotspur. But he has now signed a five-year-deal with Everton and explained that this was the move that had the most appeal.

“I’m 21, I need to… Continue reading →
