Evaluating the Transfer Activity of Manchester City

Manchester City celebrate title

Of the teams competeting for the title it can be argued that Manchester City’s squad is the most complete. They have four top quality strikers who are supported by an athletic and creative midfield. Their team is full of goal scorers, Yaya Toure for example from midfield, managed to contribute 20 league goals to City’s total of 102 goals last season. Manchester City may have won the league by 2 points but fans of any team we will always want a bigger margin of victory and in an attempt to achieve that; City have flexed their financial muscle.

Looking at the points dropped last season by Manchester City, part of it was due to lapses in concentration in between the sticks. City will need to keep pressure on Joe Hart to prevent complacency coming into his game and they have signed Willy Caballero from Malaga to… Continue reading →

Southampton have arguably been one of the busiest sides during the transfer window due to a number of departures. Southampton fans can breathe a sigh of relief however as a the latest news coming out of Southampton is not a player departure, rather a player has come into St Mary’s.

Ryan Bertrand has been signed on a one year loan. The English full back was heavily linked with a £8million move to Chelsea’s title rivals Liverpool but has opted for regular first team football at The Saints following the departure of Luke Shaw to Manchester United. Rumours circulate that there is the potential for a permanent deal at the end of the season.

This is the 7th club the 24-year-old has been on loaned out to following his loan move to Aston Villa in January last season which resulted in 10 Premier League appearances.

Bertrand, twice capped by England, famously started Chelsea 11/12 Champions… Continue reading →

Everyone benefits from the Lukaku deal

Something significant happened on 30th July 2014; Everton flexed their muscles and snapped up one of the hottest, young talents in world football – Romelu Lukaku. The £28million signing will be under pressure to perform but on the face of it, this could be a very good deal for Everton, Chelsea and the player himself.

Lukaku has struggled to make an impact at Chelsea. Loan periods at West Bromwich Albion and Everton give him a better goal scoring record than Samuel Eto, Demba Ba and Fernando Torres which were the three strikers Chelsea chose to start 13/14 season with. Lukaku scored 17 goals in 35 appearances for the Baggies in the 12/13 season and 15 goals in 35 appearances for Everton (many of which as an impact substitute). He is a player who is physical and seems to be an ideal fit for Chelsea’s style of play and was nicknamed… Continue reading →
