Wayne Rooney: Unfair Criticism?

As England fail to qualify for the knock out rounds of this years World Cup, talisman Wayne Rooney has come under the spotlight for his performances in the Three Lions shirt. But should he be blamed for the team’s failings?

Many people in England will have their own opinions on the failure in this year’s tournament. My personal thought is that England are simply not good enough; we don’t have the talent to compete against other national teams and don’t develop our youngsters like we should. Others will point the finger at manager Roy Hodgson and his team selection. However, a large number of the public lay the blame squarely on one man’s shoulders – striker Wayne Rooney.

The Merseysider currently sits 4th on the all-time goalscorer chart for England, having scored 40 goals. His influence on the team, let alone a nations hopes, can’t be measured. I would go as… Continue reading →

Balotelli to join Gunners?

The latest transfer rumours are suggesting that Italian international Mario Balotelli is a possible target for North London club Arsenal

Arsene Wenger’s side are notoriously short in the centre forward position and arguably are yet to replace all time goalscorer Thierry Henry. Balotelli is a proven goalscorer in the Premier League after his time with Manchester City but questions remain about his temperament and professionalism.

The forward, who currently plays for Italian giants AC Milan, may be sold as the club look to reduce their wage bill. It is understood that officials from Arsenal are enquiring as to how much the deal would cost them and whether Balotelli would be agreeable to such a move.

Having scored the winner against England in this years World Cup, the striker will be keen to showcase his talents. He is without doubt a very capable player, scoring 30 goals in a three-year stay… Continue reading →

Didier Drogba set for Chelsea return?

Could Chelsea Club legend Didier Drogba be set for a sensational return to the Premier League?

With the rumour mill in full swing, reports are today suggesting that Drogba, aged 36, is being lined up for a “homecoming” to the West London team. The striker, who currently plays for Turkish giants Galatasaray, will join as a player before moving onto the coaching staff. Boss Jose Mourinho has never hidden his admiration for the player and hopes he will join in order to extend the his dynasty at the club.

The Ivorian will no doubt have his sights set on the World Cup in Brazil, but surely he must be excited at the thought of rejoining his old club. In fact, it was the striker who almost single-handedly won the Champions League for the team. He is a hero for the Blues, having been one of Mourinho’s first signings. He scored 100… Continue reading →

Wilfried Bony to join Arsenal or Chelsea?

Reports are suggesting that Swansea City hit man Wilfried Bony is a transfer target of London rivals Chelsea and Arsenal.

Rumours are currently flying around the internet that Bony is to be sold, with both London teams looking to bolster their strike force. A price of £19 million has been quoted; this being the buyout clause of the Ivorian’s contract. Both London teams lack real firepower in their squads, and with Champions League football adding to an already brutal fixture list, buying the striker could be a great bit of business.

He scored a total of 25 goals in all appearances last season, helping the Swans retain their top flight status. What made this effort even more amazing was that it came in his debut season in the league. Put into contrast, Roberto Soldado cost Tottenham Hotspur £26 million pounds and scored a total of 11 goals but only two… Continue reading →

Champions League winner to join Chelsea?

Reports are suggesting that young French starlet Raphaël Varane could be on his way to Stamford Bridge.

Having just won La Decima with Real Madrid, the Daily Star is reporting that the 21-year-old is a transfer target for Chelsea. With the departure of David Luiz, he is seen as someone who has the ability to step into the team and replace the Brazilian.

Varane started off his career in his native France, playing for Racing Club de Lens. Breaking into the first team at the tender age of 17, the centre half went onto make 24 appearances for the club, even chipping in with two goals. He made such an impression in his debut season, he was actually given the captain’s armband for a game. Not bad for a player who had only been given his chance due to injuries.

On 27th June 2011, he joined the Spanish outfit for… Continue reading →
