Manchester City defensive midfielder Gareth Barry admits to having no clue where his future lies with just one year remaining on his contract at the club.
The former Aston Villa man received assurances from new manager Manuel Pellegrini that he remains part of his plans for the forthcoming season, but an offer of a new deal has yet to emerge.
Barry, 32, wishes to stay at the Etihad Stadium and fight for a place in the side, but is already gearing himself up for the strong possibility he will be leaving on a free transfer next summer.
Whether any potential interest will come to the fore this transfer window remains to be seen, but Barry faces huge competition at City for a place in the team and may find he’s better served by seeking pastures new.
Pellegrini would undoubtedly prefer to keep the England man within his squad to provide him with as many selection options as possible, but Barry may be forced to look elsewhere due to the level of quality surrounding him in the dressing room.
