After Pep Guardiola completed his first signing as the new Bayern Munich boss in the shape of Barcelona central midfielder Thiago Alcantara, it adds to the high number of world class midfielders that Guardiola has at his disposal for the upcoming season. The names available to him are Arjen Robben, Franck Ribery, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Javi Martinez, Luiz Gustavo, Thomas Mueller and Toni Kroos along with the additions of Mario Gotze from rivals Borussia Dortmund and the addition of Alcantara.
But the question is, how can he use them all? The total of the players is nine which is remarkable considering the most that are used on a regular basis is 5. He has every tool possible for a manager and is why Bayern were crowned European Champions last season. The array of passing from Bastian Schweinsteiger coupled with the defensive tough tackling nature of both Javi Martinez and Luiz Gustavo gives the attacking players the license to go forward at will. Add to this, the pace and skill of Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery on either of the flanks as they mesmerize opposition defenders and then Thomas Mueller, Toni Kroos, Mario Gotze and Thiago Alcantara who can all play in the middle of the preferred 4-2-3-1 formation with the incisive passing and technical ability which makes up the Bayern Munich midfield.
The ability of all of these players to each play in the different positions means that Guardiola has a huge weapon at his disposal and the bench enables him to bring on talent , other teams across the world could only dream of.
As Guardiola enters his first season in charge, it will be interesting to see how he enables having such a large number of midfield players and whether they continue to dominate Germany and become Champions of Europe again.
