QPR Confident of Capturing Parker

Harry Redknapp is confident of a reunion with Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Scott Parker at Queens Park Rangers.

Ex-Spurs manager Redknapp is now in charge of Championship side QPR and understands the value of midfield steel in “one of the toughest league’s in the world.” This has forced him to look to the midfielder he signed for the North London club two years ago from West Ham.

The 32-year-old had a fantastic first season under Redknapp, winning Spurs’ player of the year award, voted by fans. His willingness to put his body on the line for the team endeared him to the White Hart Lane faithful. Last season injury, along with the rise to prominence of Brazilian Sandro, meant he didn’t reach the same heights last campaign.

This hasn’t prevented Redknapp from chasing his man this summer however and negotiations have been on-going between the two clubs… Continue reading →

Owls Fans Preparing for Long Season

Football fans are fickle creatures.  We have short term, selective memory.  A player, manager or team are only as good as their last decent result.  If that decent result came yesterday, then we wake up with a smile on our face, the sun is shining and everything appears brighter.  If the last good result was any further back than that, a storm is already brewing.

Two games into the league season, fans of Sheffield Wednesday are already preparing to batten down the hatches.

Owls fans might have been able to accept defeats to recently relegated Queens Park Rangers and Championship mainstays Burnley, that have left them without a point in the league.  However, those results sandwiched the league cup defeat to local rivals Rotherham United, a division below the Hillsborough outfit.

The visit to the New York stadium in midweek was always going to be a difficult one… Continue reading →

Ignasi Miquel Joins Leicester City

Ignasi Miquel has joined Leicester City on a season long loan deal

Arsenal’s 20-year-old full back Ignasi Miquel has joined Leicester City on a season long loan.

The talented youngster made his debut for Arsenal in a 1-1 draw against Leyton Orient in the FA Cup in 2011 and has since made just 13 more appearances for The Gunners after graduating from their prestigious youth academy.

With first team opportunities limited by the likes of Bacary Sagna and Kieran Gibbs, the versatile Spanish defender made just three appearances last season. He did, however, score his first Arsenal goal in the 6-1 romp over Coventry City in the Capital One Cup.

Miquel hopes that the move will increase his first team football opportunities and add to his experience by playing in one of the most competitive leagues in Europe. He was quoted in an interview saying, “I need to play, and I… Continue reading →

Bolton Bag Spearing

Liverpool youth product Jay Spearing put pen to paper today on a four-year deal with Championship promotion hopefuls Bolton Wanderers.

The tidy midfielder spent last season on loan at the Reebok Stadium, greatly impressing during his 39 appearances.

Bolton boss Dougie Freedman made the signing of Spearing a top priority after the 24-year-old did enough to win the Player of the Year award at the club.

Although noted at Anfield for his undoubted ability, he never commanded a regular place in the starting line-up for the Reds, forcing him to look elsewhere for first-team football.

Blackburn showed an interest earlier in the window, but Bolton’s local rivals pulled out once it became clear Spearing’s preference for a move to Wanderers.

Spearing becomes Freedman’s ninth summer signing as the Lancashire side attempt to regain their Premier League place having suffered relegation from the top-flight in May 2012.

The ball-playing central midfield… Continue reading →

QPR Make Enquiry For Defoe

Queens Park Rangers manager Harry Redknapp has stated that that he wants to bring Tottenham and England striker Jermain Defoe to Loftus Road. The QPR boss has made an enquiry for the striker who may be let go from White Hart Lane due to the arrival of Valencia and Spain forward Roberto Soldado.

Defoe, who played under Redknapp during spells at West Ham, Portsmouth and most recently at Spurs, wants more game time however it seems unlikely he would be willing to drop down into the Championship.

Redknapp stated: “I’d love to have Jermain. We made an enquiry but at the moment he’s not available. We’re nowhere near anything. There is a small chance of it happening.”

The clinical striker would be a massive statement of intent at Loftus Road as they look to regain their top flight status. After letting striker Loic Remy join Newcastle United on loan, whilst… Continue reading →
