PSG agree record deal with Chelsea for Luiz

Paris St. Germain have agreed a deal with Chelsea to sign David Luiz in a deal that could be worth up to £50 million.

Chelsea confirmed on their website that a deal has been struck with the Ligue 1 champions that will see David Luiz become the most expensive defender of all time.

The fee is expected to be £40 million but could rise by a further £10 million depending on appearances. PSG have beaten off competition from Spanish giants Barcelona to sign Luiz, who was expected to move to Catalonia after intense interest for the past year. The deal now hinges on personal terms being agreed and Luiz passing his medical, both of which are formalities.

The 27-year-old made just 19 appearances for the west London side last season. Manager Jose Mourinho has favoured the centre-back pairing of John Terry and Gary Cahill and doesn’t see Luiz… Continue reading →

Wenger calls for harsher penalties on FFP as City get fine

Manchester City are one of nine cases under review

ARSENE WENGER has called on UEFA to come out and clarify its position on the Financial Fair Play ruling as he feels that those who fall foul of the rules should be handed stiffer penalties.

And I agree with him.

When UEFA set out on their mandate to improve the game in June 2012 they did so without fully explaining just what the punishments would be. However just under two years later the first cases has been published and it is that of Manchester City and Paris St Germain.

Surprised? No me neither.

After spending heaps of cash on player wages and transfer fees it is no surprise that City and PSG have broken the rules that UEFA set out with both teams’ now boasting squads of world-class players that managers like Wenger can only dream about. Even those who play… Continue reading →

The Red Devils are set to bolster their forward line with the possible departures of winger Nani and striker Javier Hernandez this summer. Cavani has been identified as a potential replacement for both.

The 27-year-old has recently been linked with a move to the Premier League, having admitted he’d be tempted to test himself in England. Old Trafford his said to a preferred destination for the Uruguayan international, with reports claiming he would try to engineer a move to the champions.

Netherlands manager Louis van Gaal is expected to occupy the managers seat at United next season. He has reportedly asked for £100 million to spend on the rejuvenation of the club that currently sits in 7th in the table. Cavani is likely to cost at least half of that. But with 16 goals… Continue reading →

Hugo Lloris in damning assessment of Spurs’ season

Hugo Lloris criticises his teams performances this season

“It will be difficult to do worse”. Those are the words of Hugo Lloris on Tottenham Hotspur’s season with the club missing out once again on Champions League football.

The French goalkeeper has launched a scathing assessment on his sides Premier League campaign and stated that this season hasn’t been good enough for them.

With a new manager being sought at White Hart Lane ahead of the 2014-2015 season there have been calls for Lloris to be handed the captaincy in North London, as the club looks to build for a renewed assault next season on the top-four.

The France number one is a popular figure at Spurs and is currently captain of Les Bleus heading into the 2014 World Cup this summer. Now the Tottenham faithful want to see him take control of the club armband and could be a major… Continue reading →
