Manchester United Reach Rojo Agreement

Manchester United have reached an agreement for their third deal of the transfer window with the capture of Sporting Lisbon defender Marcos Rojo for a fee of £16 million.

The deal also sees Portuguese winger Nani heading in the opposite direction on a season long loan 7 years after leaving Lisbon for Old Trafford.

The Argentine defender, who has seen his stock rise since his impressive World Cup will bolster United manager Louis Van Gaal’s defensive options which look vulnerable during the opening day defeat to Swansea. The defender, who can operate either as a left centre half or as a left full back, is seen as the type of player who is adaptable and will fit into Van Gaal’s 3-5-2 formation with ease.

Spurs close in on third summer signing

TOTTENHAM Hotspur are closing in on their third summer signing after overnight reports suggested that English defender Eric Dier was closing in on a move to North London. The 20-year old Sporting Lisbon centre-half is expected to complete his move in the coming days with a £4 million deal between the two clubs being discussed.

Despite not being a household name on these shores the young defender has already made five appearances for the England under-21 side and is dubbed as the “next John Terry” due to his brave and powerful playing style.
He was approached by the Portuguese FA to play his international football for them however he turned down their advances and has represented England at under-18, u19, u20 and u21 levels.

Germany vs Portugal: Match preview

ONE OF THE most eagerly anticipated matches of the World Cup group stage takes place today in Salvador.
Three-time winners Germany meet Portugal in what is sure to be a spectacle to behold at the Arena Fonte Nova on day five.

Most of the pre-match build up has been centred around injury news for both sides but for one man in particular.

Jackson Martinez’ agent expects offer soon

Arsenal target Jackson Martinez has made it clear that he would like to join a new club this summer. The FC Porto striker’s agent says he expects an offer to arrive soon.


Gunners manager Arsene Wenger has put a striker at the top of his transfer wish list for the summer. Porto’s £34 million-rated striker Jackson Martinez is said to be high on this list. The players agent has now admitted he expects the offers to arrive soon.


Talking to a Portuguese newspaper Luis Henrique Pompey said;

“There are clubs interested in knowing more about his situation and may make offers to Porto, it is convenient to the all. It will be a normal process, done calmly and transparency.”


Martinez, also attracting interest from Chelsea and Roma, previously admitted he would consider a move from Portugal in the summer.

Moyes lining up summer move for Lisbon star

David Moyes is looking to bolster his squad with the summer signing of Sporting Lisbon’s William Carvalho.


However, the holding midfielder, who has been capped once by Portugal, is also attracting the interest of Real Madrid and fellow Premier League giants Chelsea. With Manchester United looking to rebuild their current squad, any potential deal for Carvalho will see Moyes having to splash the cash. The 21-year-old has a buy out clause of £37.5 million and four years remaining on his current deal.


Carvalho progressed through Sporting’s famous academy system, responsible for producing Cristiano Ronaldo and Nani. The midfielder then endured loan spells with Portuguese third division side Fatima and Cercle Brugge of the Belgian Pro League. On his return, Carvalho’s form has seen him force his way into Lisbon’s starting eleven.
