Good news for Southampton Fans, Bertrand comes in

Southampton have arguably been one of the busiest sides during the transfer window due to a number of departures. Southampton fans can breathe a sigh of relief however as a the latest news coming out of Southampton is not a player departure, rather a player has come into St Mary’s.

Ryan Bertrand has been signed on a one year loan. The English full back was heavily linked with a £8million move to Chelsea’s title rivals Liverpool but has opted for regular first team football at The Saints following the departure of Luke Shaw to Manchester United. Rumours circulate that there is the potential for a permanent deal at the end of the season.

This is the 7th club the 24-year-old has been on loaned out to following his loan move to Aston Villa in January last season which resulted in 10 Premier League appearances.

Bertrand, twice capped by England, famously started Chelsea 11/12 Champions… Continue reading →

Everyone benefits from the Lukaku deal

Something significant happened on 30th July 2014; Everton flexed their muscles and snapped up one of the hottest, young talents in world football – Romelu Lukaku. The £28million signing will be under pressure to perform but on the face of it, this could be a very good deal for Everton, Chelsea and the player himself.

Lukaku has struggled to make an impact at Chelsea. Loan periods at West Bromwich Albion and Everton give him a better goal scoring record than Samuel Eto, Demba Ba and Fernando Torres which were the three strikers Chelsea chose to start 13/14 season with. Lukaku scored 17 goals in 35 appearances for the Baggies in the 12/13 season and 15 goals in 35 appearances for Everton (many of which as an impact substitute). He is a player who is physical and seems to be an ideal fit for Chelsea’s style of play and was nicknamed… Continue reading →

Everton smash transfer record on Lukaku

Everton have announced the signing of Romelu Lukaku from Chelsea for £28 million.

The fee is almost double the clubs previous record fee paid for a player, £15 million for Marouane Fellaini from Standard Liege in 2008. The news came simultaneously with the announcement that starlet Ross Barkley has committed his future to the club by signing a new contract.

Lukaku spent last season on loan at Goodison Park but was expected to return to Chelsea after a successful season at the Toffees. It soon became apparent, however, that the Belgium international was set for another season on the fringes in West London.

The 21-year-old has been linked with moves to numerous Premier League clubs this summer, most notably Tottenham Hotspur. But he has now signed a five-year-deal with Everton and explained that this was the move that had the most appeal.

“I’m 21, I need to… Continue reading →

Liverpool sign Arsenal and Spurs target

Liverpool have announced the £10 million signing of Belgian World Cup star Divock Origi from Lille.

Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur have both been linked with a move for Origi. But the talented striker has chosen Anfield, signing a five-year-deal with the Premier League runners-up.

Origi has been linked with a move to England for over a year now but interest intensified after a successful campaign in Brazil. Belgium reached the quarter-finals, with the new Liverpool man playing every game.

Liverpool hope their latest signing will prove to be a long term replacement for Luis Suarez. But we will have to wait a while to see him in Liverpool colours, he has immediately been loaned back to Lille for the duration of next season.

Talking on the club website Origi spoke of his excitement at playing for a club of such magnitude.

“I am very, very happy and delighted… Continue reading →

Chelsea sign second Barcelona player

Having signed Cesc Fabregas from Barcelona before the World Cup, Chelsea have once again raided Camp Nou. This time it’s youth winger Josi Quintero that has signed for Jose Mourinho’s side, agreeing a three-year-deal.

The 17-year-old had been training with The Blues for a while before signing the deal. He has impressed Mourinho and his coaching staff enough to finalise the move but is expected to start with the reserves next season.

Ecuadorian youth international Quintero is the latest of an early transfer flurry from Chelsea. He joins big money signings Fabregas and Diego Costa. While The former-Arsenal pass-master joined before a ball was kicked in Brazil, Costa waited until after Spain were knocked out, which was only a few days later.

Chelsea are planning on bringing in Costa’s former Atletico team-made Filipe Luis next, which would take spending up to over £80 million with the transfer… Continue reading →
