Transfer Rumours

Wenger targets more summer signings

Arsene Wenger has excited Arsenal fans by admitting he is not done yet, with more summer signings on the way.

The French manager often receives criticism for his quiet transfer windows. But with the Premier League the strongest it’s ever been, as well as the richest, he knows he needs to spend to compete. Long gone are the days of the ‘big four’, now we have six teams that ‘expect’ to finish in the top four. This means competition is hot and the pressure is high.

Arsenal finished fourth last season and despite leading the way for months many believe they only finished as high as they did because of the inconsistency below them. Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur were both expecting to finish in the top four last season and both parted company with managers as a result of the failure.

Mourinho: No more signings this summer

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho says there will be no more additions to his squad this summer, having spent around £80 million already.

The Blues have completed big money moves for Cesc Fabregas, Diego Costa and Filipe Luis already during the transfer window and Mourinho is now happy with the squad that will start the season. Fabregas joined from Barcelona for a fee of around £30 million. While Costa and Luis, both from Atletico Madrid, signed for a combined fee of £48 million.

The Portuguese manager is now confident he has a side that will compete for the Premier League title. He admits, however, that it’s impossible to predict who will run out eventual champions. Because of heavy investment from the other top sides it’s harder to call than ever before.

“A few years ago, you make a team to be champions and most probably you are champions. Now if… Continue reading →

Spurs determined to tie-down Vertonghen despite Barca rumours

WITH THE WORLD Cup drawing to a close last weekend the transfer window is now in full flow and one of Belgium’s aces is hot on the radar of Barcelona.

Jan Vertonghen impressed in Brazil, like he has done during his two-year spell at Tottenham Hotspur, however after Carles Puyol’s retirement last season the Catalan’s are now on the look-out for a new centre-back.
With four years left on his current deal it would take a big offer to prise the former Ajax man away from White Hart Lane and after splashing out £75m on Luis Suarez funds are tight at the Nou Camp.

The 27-year old admitted during last season that he would have to look at his future in the summer if Spurs failed to qualify for the Champions League. At the time Andre Villas-Boas was in charge and Vertonghen was regularly moved to left-back during the Portuguese’s… Continue reading →

Liverpool and Spurs in fight for Lukaku

Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur are to go head-to-head in the race to sign Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku.

Lukaku is desperate to impress Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho but seems to be fighting a losing battle. The Portuguese manager has already brought in Spain international Diego Costa but appears intent on bringing in at least one more forward man.

The 21-year-old publicly stated he didn’t want to be loaned out last season, right before he was shipped out to Everton. This season he seems to be prioritising first team football though. While he would prefer this to be with the Stamford Bridge side he is believed to be considering his options.

Liverpool have the upper hand having just sold Luis Suarez whilst being able to offer Champions League football. Spurs are hoping to raise funds with the sale of several fringe players but may decided to back new manager… Continue reading →

United to launch £60m bid for golden boot winner

Manchester United are considering a staggering £60 million bid for World Cup golden boot winner James Rodriguez in an attempt to beat Real Madrid to his signature, according to the Daily Express.

Rodriguez set the World Cup alight, scoring six goals in five matches to finish the tournament as top scorer. The 22-year-old was a massive outsider to out score the worlds biggest names in Brazil, priced at 100/1 before a ball was kicked. This has led to strong interest from Europe’s biggest clubs, including Spanish giants Real Madrid. But new Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has put the young Colombian at the top of his wish list.

Monaco are set to cash in on their new star asset – but not before a potential bidding war ensures they maximise their return. Rodriguez has spoken of his desire to play for Los Blancos but the Red Devils are… Continue reading →
