Arsenal’s 20-year-old full back Ignasi Miquel has joined Leicester City on a season long loan.
The talented youngster made his debut for Arsenal in a 1-1 draw against Leyton Orient in the FA Cup in 2011 and has since made just 13 more appearances for The Gunners after graduating from their prestigious youth academy.
With first team opportunities limited by the likes of Bacary Sagna and Kieran Gibbs, the versatile Spanish defender made just three appearances last season. He did, however, score his first Arsenal goal in the 6-1 romp over Coventry City in the Capital One Cup.
Miquel hopes that the move will increase his first team football opportunities and add to his experience by playing in one of the most competitive leagues in Europe. He was quoted in an interview saying, “I need to play, and I think coming here will give me a chance to be part of the squad, to be fighting for a place in the starting 11.”
The move to The King Power Stadium further strengthens the Foxes defence after Nigel Pearson confirmed the signing of former Tranmere Rovers defender Zoumana Bakayogo towards the end of last month.
