Inter Milan have completed the signing of Uruguayan U20 international Diego Laxalt from Defensor Sporting.
The 20-year-old has signed a five-year contract and becomes the latest part of the Inter revolution after a horrendous 2012/2013 campaign which saw them finish 9th, their worst finish for 19 years.
The midfielder helped Uruguay to the final of the Under-20 World Cup this summer in Turkey, playing in every game as they ended runners up to France after a penalty shout-out defeat. Uruguay were noted for their defensive resilience during the tournament which was evident when France, an attacking powerhouse, failed to score in 120 minutes of open play.
Loxalt becomes new Inter manager Walter Mazzarri’s latest summer signing having recently secured the services of Mauro Icardi from Sampdoria and Ishak Belfodil from Parma, as well as Hugo Campagnaro from Napoli.
Antonio Cassano and Dejan Stankovic are the biggest names to leave the club this summer as a Mazzarri looks to overhaul the team ahead of next season.
