Liverpool are preparing a bid for Paris Saint Germain defender Mamadou Sakho, according to French newspaper L’Equipe.
With the Premier League kick-off fast approaching teams are scrambling to get players in to plug holes and replace players that have moved on during the summer. With rumours emerging that Barcelona are set to bid for Daniel Agger, Liverpool have been forced to find defensive reinforcements.
Sakho is said to be upset about falling down the pecking order at PSG with Thiago Silva, Alex and Marquinhos expected to occupy the back-line more often than not. This appears to be the news The Reds were waiting for to finally make an official approach for their long term defensive target.
The 23-year-old has been linked with a host of clubs this summer but always insisted he was happy to fight for his place. This seems to have changed after France manager Didier Deschamps revealed players must be first team regulars if they want to be a part of the World Cup squad in Brazil next summer.
The centre-back has played 14 times in total for France but now knows a move away from PSG may be his only option if he wants to add to that total.
