Manchester United will to set their sights on Bayern Munich midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger if they fail to lure Cesc Fabregas to Old Trafford.
Manchester United are said to be considering one last bid of £35 million for Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas but are prepared for the ex-Arsenal player to turn down the offer.
Barca vice-president Javier Faus said he expects the Spain international to stay but conceded it was down to the player to make a decision on his future despite being signed to a long-term contract at the Spanish giants. If he does decided to stay, which many think he will, United will turn their attention to Champions League winner Bastian Schweinsteiger of Bayern Munich.
Talk that the Germany international doesn’t fit into manager Pep Guardiola’s plans have forced some to speculate that he will leave the Bavarian outfit this summer, with David Moyes said to be a fan. The 29-year-old is believed to want first team football and is willing to move from the European champions in search of it.
Despite inheriting a team that dominated in Germany and Europe last season Pep Guardiola is unlikely to play with two defensive midfielders and is likely to favour Javi Martinez as his midfield anchor.
