Manchester United have reached an agreement for their third deal of the transfer window with the capture of Sporting Lisbon defender Marcos Rojo for a fee of £16 million.
The deal also sees Portuguese winger Nani heading in the opposite direction on a season long loan 7 years after leaving Lisbon for Old Trafford.
The Argentine defender, who has seen his stock rise since his impressive World Cup will bolster United manager Louis Van Gaal’s defensive options which look vulnerable during the opening day defeat to Swansea. The defender, who can operate either as a left centre half or as a left full back, is seen as the type of player who is adaptable and will fit into Van Gaal’s 3-5-2 formation with ease.
The Argentinian, who made 6 appearances during the World Cup, is seen as the first of a few more signings before the end of the window as Van Gaal looks to reshape his squad and improve on last season’s disastrous 7th placed finish.
