David Moyes is looking to bolster his squad with the summer signing of Sporting Lisbon’s William Carvalho.
However, the holding midfielder, who has been capped once by Portugal, is also attracting the interest of Real Madrid and fellow Premier League giants Chelsea. With Manchester United looking to rebuild their current squad, any potential deal for Carvalho will see Moyes having to splash the cash. The 21-year-old has a buy out clause of £37.5 million and four years remaining on his current deal.
Carvalho progressed through Sporting’s famous academy system, responsible for producing Cristiano Ronaldo and Nani. The midfielder then endured loan spells with Portuguese third division side Fatima and Cercle Brugge of the Belgian Pro League. On his return, Carvalho’s form has seen him force his way into Lisbon’s starting eleven.
He has also been tipped by many to make Portugal’s World Cup squad this summer. A strong performance in Brazil would only increase his value too. Meaning United would have to act quickly to secure his services.
