Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly ready to bid for Ajax’ promising duo Christian Eriksen and Toby Alderweireld as their bid for glory continues.
Spurs have already spent £52 million this summer on stars like Roberto Soldado and Paulinho but show no signs of slowing their spending with the aim of competing right at the top of the Premier League.
With all the talk of Gareth bale departing for Real Madrid many have written off the North London club before the season has started but they have made no secret of their intentions this season and will hope their ambition will be visible to the Welsh winger as he makes a decision about his future.
Eriksen and Alderweireld have long been targets of Liverpool but Spurs look to gazump their north-west rivals once again, to the annoyance of Kop fans. Eriksen has been linked with moves to several clubs already in the close-season but has been waiting for the right club to make an approach. Both players have talent in abundance and have understandably attracted plenty of attention, especially as their contracts at the Dutch giants expire next year.
“I am prepared to wait. I will only go where my heart wants to go,” Eriksen said, talking about a move to a big club in the Premier League.
“I am patiently waiting what will happen in the next few weeks. But I have said before I only want to go to a club where I feel I can play at my best and which suits my style. I am ready for something new, I am ready for bigger options. But it has to be right,” he added.
Eriksen has already played 36 times for Denmark, despite being only 21 and Alderweireld is part of the influx of Belgian players threatening to rule the world. He would join international compatriots Jan Vertonghen and Mousa Dembele if he moved to White Hart Lane.
Eriksen would cost £8 million and Alderweireld, who is also wanted by Everton, would cost £7 million. A move for both would push Spurs’ spending to £67 million even if there is a last minute hitch with the imminent signing of France international Etienne Capoue from Toulouse.
